French Bulldog-specific notes at this weight
French Bulldogs are compact, brachycephalic dogs with relatively low exercise tolerance. Extra body fat worsens heat intolerance and airway effort, so keeping BCS near 4–5/9 matters more than hitting a single number on the scale.
Short coats make ribs easier to see, but a barrel chest can look "solid" even when fat cover is excessive. Feel for ribs without pressing hard, and look for a clear waist behind the ribs from above.
Many Frenchies do best on the lower maintenance multipliers (neutered, low activity ~1.2 × RER). Weight-loss targets often use ~1.0 × RER. Avoid crash diets — rapid loss can worsen muscle loss in a small frame.
